The Department of Graphic Design offers a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts program, with the opportunity to pursue a fifth year of study leading to the Bachelor of Graphic Design degree. It also offers a Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. Additionally, RISD Graphic Design offers workshops and credit-bearing courses during the summer.

Visual Systems

Junior requirement for majors – 3 credits
Spring 2009

This course is a study of the structural and organizing systems at work in graphic design such as grids, modules, proportion, progression, symmetry and rhythm. Design problems will be studied holistically through projects that stress dynamic relationships among content, form and context to gain a deeper understanding of systems at many levels.
