Aki Nurosi is a full Professor of Graphic Design here at the Rhode Island School of Design. Her teaching concentrates on the subject of color and its application to design. She also teaches typography and package design.

She received her B.A. from the Ecole Superieure Des Arts Modernes in Paris and her M.F.A. in Graphic Design from Yale University, studying with professors Inge Druckery, Alvin Eisenman, John Hill, Armin Hofmann, Norman Ives, Herbert Matter, Paul Rand and Bradbury Thompson.

Before coming to RISD, upon graduation, she became the senior designer at Yale University Printing Service and an adjunct faculty at the University of New Haven.

She has kept a free lance design practice and color consultation in Providence, Rhode Island.

Aki’s art works are inspired by nature. Her drawings, based on autumn leaves, feathers, and trees have been shown in solo and group exhibitions at numerous galleries and are part of international private collections.

In 1994 Aki was invited to present a paper on the subject of COLOR at the conference on color education at UIAh in Helsinki, Finland.

Her students works have been published in Spirals (a publication by the RISD graphic design dept), the Graphis Student Design and New Talent Design Annual.

She has co-written, designed and published two books. ‘Colorful Illusions’, published in 2000/2001 and the other published in 2004/2005 titled ‘Artful Illusions.’ Colorful Illusions have been translated into German, Hebrew and Russion and the ‘Artful Illusions’ was selected by the Children’s book of the month club.
