LUST is a three-person multidisciplinary graphic design practice established in 1996 by Thomas Castro, Jeroen Barendse and Dimitri Nieuwenhuizen and based in The Hague, Netherlands. In the past 12 years, LUST projects have represented a diverse perspective of what graphic design can mean in the age of information, showing a deep interest in the precarious edge where non-linear informational structures and process methodologies meet traditional design craftsmanship, typography and art. LUST’s design methodology has been described as generative and systems based design. This entails the developing of an analytical process which leads eventually to an end-product that designs itself, resulting in a broad spectrum of media including traditional printwork and book design, abstract cartography and data-visualisations, new media and interactive installations, and spatial and architectural graphics. But above all, LUST is most interested in the overlap between architectural and urban systems, information and media technologies, and graphic design.
